Kumamoto Castle Before and After the Earthquake - Photographic Special

Kumamoto Castle is the most famous and well known attraction in the city, and receives countless visitors every year. The loss of this top attraction is sure to have an impact on tourism in Kumamoto, especially as it is going to take so long to repair the castle - some sources say up to two decades in order to carefully reconstruct this national treasure, with intricate techniques and specialist skills.

Having lived in the city for nearly a year and a half, I have visited the castle several times and in different seasons, experiencing its beauty the year round. Aside from that, having a great view of the castle from my apartment has given me plenty of opportunities to photograph it. Here is my personal collection of photos of Kumamoto Castle, from both before and after the earthquake.
