OUT of STEP - Kumamoto Bagel Shop

I don't know about you, but I just love it when I find a neat little eatery that offers something you just can't get anywhere else. OUT of STEP is the only place in Kumamoto that I know of where you can get hand-made, authentic, awesome-quality bagels. All other 'bagel' products I've seen around here have just been bagel-shaped bread, but at OUT of STEP I can guarantee that you're getting the real deal!

Freshly baked bagels come in flavours such as plain, sesame seed (ゴマ) pumpkin seed, raisin (レーズン), dried fig bagel,  pizza bagel (ピザベーグル), grain mix, very berry (ベーリベーグル） and cranberry (クランベリー) and will set you back about ￥200 - 280 a piece. As well as bagels, you can also get home-baked cakes and muffins (banana muffins and chocolate muffins were available when I visited) as well as cookies such as shortbread, M&M cookies and fruit cookies.

You can grab something to take away, or if you want to stick around there is a small seating area where you can sit and enjoy your lunch. Bagels can be made into sandwiches with fillings such as ham and cheese, BLT or pastrami and cream cheese... just ask what fillings are available at the time of your visit. You can also get a lunch plate deal which comes with the daily salad (we had a delicious bean salad.)

Opening times are 12 - 7 on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. OUT of STEP isn't right in the centre of town but it's literally right next to the Kawaramachi tram stop so is super easy to get to. Business has been slow since this earthquake and as this is a new business (opened only last year) it would be great to support local and try this place out - I promise that you won't get better bagels anywhere else in town!
